LILLOOET ST’AT’IMC CULTURAL AND COMMUNITY CENTRE

This proposed project involves the renovation of and addition to the existing Lillooet Recreation Centre + Library site in downtown Lillooet. The design includes 3 main components: replacing the existing swimming pool structure with the St’at’imc Cultural Centre, renovating the majority of the Recreation Centre – including a new Visitor Entrance Atrium, and building a new swimming pool building at the south end of the site. Programming will feature a cultural museum + workshops, event hosting, food service, a modernized pool facility, and the existing recreation programming (ice rink, fitness centre and basketball court.)

The project aims to bring new life to an aging structure and create a tourist attraction for the community. It represents a unique and exciting collaboration between the town of Lillooet and 6 communities of the St’at’imc Nation which will help revitalize the existing building and downtown.

Inspiration for the feature Visitor Entrance Atrium comes from the natural landscape of the territory, interpreted as a “forest” of heavy-timber wood columns and a series of round skylights, capped with a peaked roof reaching out to invite the community and visitors in.
